About us

The Cameli family has been managing the "Vecchio Convento" restaurant and hotel in Portico di Romagna and the "Academy Olmo" school of Italian language and cuisine for four generations.

A family of chefs and restaurateurs who believed in the development of the social and economic fabric of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines and still believes in the revitalization of the area today by developing food and wine tourism and small local businesses.

Today the family business is run by the Massimiliano and Matteo brothers, two chefs who have always worked in the best kitchens in the world, especially in Northern Europe. Invited by internationally acclaimed chefs to play a leading role in theme nights, cooking shows, fairs, festivals, wine tastings and events, Massimiliano and Matteo never forget the origins and traditions of their homeland, Romagna-Tuscany.

What is the "Social Restaurant" Project?

And why is it "social"?

The "Social Restaurant" project arises from the personal experiences of Massimiliano and Matteo who found firsthand, while visiting the Nordic countries, that "classic Italian" cuisine really is one of the most appreciated in the world, but at the same time the experience and professionalism necessary to produce it are not as widespread.

The question arose spontaneously for Massimiliano: "Why not bring a little Italian style to Northern Europe?"

"Our plan is to export the most authentic Tuscan-Romagna culinary tradition to Denmark and to import business and know-how to Portico di Romagna and the surrounding area with the help of those who believe in this idea."

The business challenge is to create new lasting jobs and bring new investments into our area and other areas of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, as they are subject to a critical decrease in the population and consequent lack of economic sustainability of many projects.

We will therefore combine the artisan heart of the Romagnolo people with the typical business knowledge of Nordic countries, exploiting the passion for Italian cuisine and respect for nature and tradition as a link.

Social stands, above all, for "social sector", as a large part of the fundings from the Project will be used to support and (re)finance social and ethical projects and cultural schemes in Portico di Romagna and the surrounding area.

Massimiliano and Matteo have already successfully completed several social projects with a method they invented called "Cooking for Joy", which combines cooking with yoga and storytelling to "restore the soul of the most fragile people". For example:

  • the Cooking School in Prison in Forli, both for women and men
  • the Cooking School in the Village of Joy of the "Papa Giovanni XXIII" Association of Forli, dedicated to people with social problems
  • Cooking Courses for non-EU people for the purposes of helping them to find employment.

But social stands also - and obviously - for "social networks" ... because we need your help to spread the project to all your friends and acquaintances, Italian and non-Italian, inviting them to participate in crowdfunding .

Social Restaurant - Interviste

Target

The "Social Restaurant" is a complex project that consists of several steps, each with a specific objective/purpose, which we will only be able to achieve if adequate funding levels are reached.

The goals are ambitious, but not unattainable. We will find part of the fundings with direct investments by private individuals, business people and local companies that believe in the rebirth of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines ... but we also need your crowdfunding contribution!

Step 1 Osteria and Pizzeria in Odder (Denmark)

On reaching the first € 150,000 we will open an Osteria and Gourmet Pizzeria in Odder, Denmark, with an adjoining wine shop and retail and wholesale of typical products of Romagna. The culinary proposal will be "classic Italian" (from Romagna) and we will only use top quality ingredients from our area.

To help Massimiliano and Matteo in this great project, an international team of first-rate professionals (managers, chefs, bakers, ...) from all over the world was set up.

Visit our crowdfunding page and find out our what we can give you in exchange. Thank you!

Step 2 Bakery and Pastry in Portico di Romagna (Italy)

On reaching € 250,000, we will open a bakery and pastry shop in Portico di Romagna with a short supply chain of grain. Under the supervision of the Mulino Pransani company, we will plant ancient organic grains in collaboration with local farmers, to produce our flour and create income and new jobs in the Apennines (we estimate at least 10 jobs).

We will also dedicate a large space to pastry, where, as master pastry chefs, we will develop new recipes and new combinations starting from local products and raw materials.

Step 3 Restoration of the 17th century water mill in Portico di Romagna (Italy)

On reaching € 350,000, together with co-financing by the Emilia Romagna Region, we will be able to participate in the restoration of a 17th century water mill of great historical and cultural value.

This mill will enable us to produce flour in an artisanal way and particularly from ancient grains, creating new jobs and a greater fixed income for local farmers (we estimate at least 8 jobs).
